Baltic Racing Team Interview

Amira Tamam

Introduce your team briefly

Baltic Racing is existing since 1999. We are the first German team that participated in Formula Student. Currently, we are 65 members with a passion for engineering and motorsport.
This year we can proudly participate in our 20th consecutive season, with our 20th (and last) combustion race car. #thelastofitskind

Tell us about your team´s history with Formula Student

Since our foundation, we have participated in FSAE Events all over the world, like Australia, UK or Europe. With our 20th consecutive season, we are very looking forward to this one, especially after last years abstinence from the competition.

What does Formula Student Netherlands mean to you?

We are very excited to feel the atmosphere at TT Circuit Assen. This year’s participation in FSN is the first one in the team’s history. We heard a lot about that great event and can´t wait to compete on Dutch soil.

What are your main goals for this year?

The main goal is to show what Baltic Racing is founded for. To compete the best way we can in statics by justifying our car design properly and leave some competitors behind in the dynamic events to reach our goal of a top 10 finish.
After three events this year, a new era begins, where we are focused on the development of our first electric vehicle in the team’s history.

What made you think of/choose FSN?

Highly recommended event with great registered teams.
We are proud to be part of it in 2021 and we think our car and our mentality will fit well in the event.

What makes you different from the other teams?

We are a very familiar team with a great network of supporting alumni. Our team only consists of bachelor students from class 2, 4 and 6. All of them are doing this great Formula Student Hobby next to their regular education.

What is your biggest achievement in Formula Student so far?

3rd Place for the acceleration event in FSCZ 2019. 7th place overall in FSG 2007 and 2nd place in cost for FSG 2012.

Describe your car in three words.

Blue Roaring Triumph

How did COVID-19 affect your team and how did you deal with it?

The pandemic affected us luckily only in workshop access. Not a single team member had serious issues with that covid disease. Our workshop permission was denied for about 5 months last year, which made us finishing the TY20 racecar nearly one year later than normal. In the meantime, we did virtually events and all important meetings online.
